KEES VAN DER WESTEN SLIM JIM IDROCOMPRESSO

The Slim Jim Idrocompresso is a spring lever espresso machine engineered by Kees van der Westen, pairing artisan lever theatre with 316L stainless steel multi-boiler stability. Every group runs on independent PID control for ±0.1°C accuracy, built for serious Indian cafés and home roasteries. Available in Duette and Triplette configurations.

Description

01 / The Machine

A spring lever espresso machine built for precision theatre

Lever machines reward skill but punish inconsistent heat, and most cafés can’t afford that trade-off. The Slim Jim Idrocompresso resolves it by fusing spring-lever artistry with multi-boiler thermal control, keeping every pull repeatable despite India’s variable mains power and water hardness.

02 / Engineering

A re-engineered lever, without the risk

Kees van der Westen relocated the lever away from the barista and added a thumb-operated lock, removing the danger of accidental kicks while preserving the classic decaying-pressure profile lever drinkers seek. The lower piston is machined from PEEK, a heat-neutral polymer that refuses to absorb brew-water heat, keeping thermal stability intact through back-to-back high-volume sessions.

Why It Matters

Built around barista control

  • Each group runs on an independent PID that learns its own heating cycle for ±0.1°C accuracy.
  • Hydraulic logic blocks heating until both coffee and steam boilers confirm full, protecting elements from dry-firing.
  • Any group solenoid triggered beyond 3 minutes shuts down automatically to prevent damage.
  • Per-group shot timers, pressure gauges, and base-mounted control lights confirm every heating spiral in real time.
03 / Specification

Engineered for consistency, group by group

01

316L Stainless Boilers

Coffee boilers of 0.8L each, paired with a 10.5L steam boiler, all in food-grade 316L stainless steel for long-term corrosion resistance.

02

4,800W / 6,000W Steam Heating

Dual-rated steam heating power lets the machine adapt to normal or high-output settings depending on bar demand.

03

450W Per Coffee Group

Each coffee boiler carries its own 450W element, keeping brew groups thermally independent of one another.

04

1-Phase or 3-Phase Ready

Runs on 220–240V, 50–60Hz, configurable for single-phase or three-phase electrical supply to suit most Indian café installations.

05

Peak Power Up To 7,830W

Combined normal and high-mode peak draw ranges from roughly 6,180W to 7,830W depending on the group configuration selected.

06

PEEK Piston Construction

A heat-neutral PEEK lower piston isolates brew water temperature from mechanical heat transfer, preserving shot-to-shot consistency.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this a manual lever espresso machine?

Yes. The Slim Jim Idrocompresso uses a spring-lever group for the classic decaying-pressure extraction, refined with a safety lock against accidental activation.

How does it maintain temperature stability?

Each group has an independent PID controller learning its heating cycle, plus a heat-neutral PEEK piston that doesn’t absorb brew-water heat.

What’s the difference between Duette and Triplette?

Duette runs two coffee groups; Triplette runs three. Steam boiler size, voltage, and phase support remain identical across both.

Can it run on single-phase power in India?

Yes. The machine supports both 1-phase and 3-phase configurations at 220–240V, 50–60Hz.

What protects the machine from dry-firing?

Hydraulic safety logic blocks heating until both the coffee and steam boilers are confirmed full, and any group solenoid held open beyond 3 minutes shuts off automatically.

05 / Who It’s For

A spring lever espresso machine for craft-driven bars

The Slim Jim Idrocompresso suits Indian specialty cafés and serious home setups that want the tactile ritual of lever brewing without sacrificing thermal precision. It’s built for operators who see espresso as craft, not just throughput.
